Communication and Curriculum ...

In addition to its consultative services, the Center for Comparative Medicine hosts a number of educational programs for mouse biology at all levels. Advances in Mouse Biology are featured in annual Mouse Biology Symposia held at UC Davis, and cooperative educational programs are being offered or developed in partnership with The Jackson Laboratory at Bar Harbor, ME or UC Davis. Advanced internet-based interactive telepathology, developed under the auspices of the National Cancer Institute Mouse Models of Human Cancer Consortium and the National Center for Research Resources Mutant Mouse Regional Resource Center, links the Center's substantial comparative pathology expertise with the entire world. The Center houses the largest teaching archive of mutant mouse pathology in the world, representing over 250 mutants and 8,000 accessions. The Center provides advanced mouse pathology training to mid-career MDs and DVMs. Another internet-accessible teaching modality is The Visible Mouse (www.compemd.ucdavis.edu/tvmouse), which provides a growing mouse database. The Center hosts NIH-funded training programs for veterinary students and for PhD training of veterinarians in the discipline of comparative medicine and mouse biology. Professional (veterinary) and graduate courses in mouse pathology and the use of mice in biomedical research are offered by Center faculty to the UC Davis campus. The Mouse Biology Program keeps its constituency informed of its rapidly growing programs through the Monthly Newsletter, available by email to interested parties.
